ALLPLANTS: WHAT IS IT?

Allplants is a brand-new delivery service that brings healthy, plant-based, ready-prepared frozen meals to your door. All you have to do is pop it in the oven for 20 mins and you’re laughing. There are 22 vibrant dishes on offer spanning a range of cuisines, from lasagne noci (made with mushroom, lentil and walnut ragu with a butternut squash bechamel) to a smoky soul chilli, shepherd’s pie or a cauliflower tikka masala. No matter what you fancy, everything is catered for, and each dish both looks and tastes good.

ALLPLANTS: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

Well, it’s plant based, which has its pros and cons when it comes to the environment – but eating more delicious veg and less cheap meat is always a step in the right direction. Instantly freezing the meals keeps the nutritional value –  and taste – locked in. The idea behind the service isn’t to cater just to vegans, but to tempt meat eaters over to the greener side, too, by making it quick and simple to eat delicious plant-based dishes.

A sustainable approach is also applied to the packaging. Everything arrives wrapped in a wool chiller bag to reduce plastic, and cardboard container and even the plastic film of each dish can be recycled if you give them a rinse. When you’ve unpacked all your meals, you can take the hardy cardboard box and wool insulation to a Collect+ point so that it can be reused. And, once you’ve had your first order, Allplants asks you to give feedback – and will a plant a tree if you do.

ALLPLANTS: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Choose your meals and away you go! You can choose in either single or double portions (double rings in a whisker cheaper), and you can also sign up to have a subscription, which knocks the price down a little bit. At around £7 a portion, it’s not the cheapest option around (and the food isn’t organic), but it’s useful to have a stash of these in the freezer for busy months.
