DAYLESFORD CAFE: WHAT IS IT?

Daylesford Café lives and breathes sustainability. Founder Carole Bamford – yes, of the Bamford construction company – lead the family to turn its farm over to organic, sustainable methods in Staffordshire and the Cotswolds, all driven by a passion for real food.

This ethos snowballed until Daylesford became one of the most sustainable organic farms in the UK, supplying several cafés around the country. As a brand, Daylesford has set itself goals to inspire change, farm with integrity and feed the future – all starting with utterly delicious food. If that doesn’t inspire you to eat better – in all senses of the word – we don’t know what will. The London sites are all-day cafés with a deli and farm shop attached. Be prepared to splash some serious cash, but it’s worth it.

DAYLESFORD CAFE: WHAT TO ORDER?

There are four sites in London: Brompton Cross, Notting Hill, Pimlico and Marylebone, each one home to dishes as delicious as the last. All the sites are all-day dining havens that will take you from breakfast all the way through to supper, with plenty of allergen-free options. In the morning, you’ve got the usual classics (think full English or eggs all ways), but also seasonal choices.

In February, we had our eye on the winter harvest menu: the St Clements, with orange and lemon compote, live natural yoghurt and granola; or the porridge with rhubarb and toasted oats. At lunch, stop in for a fondue made with Daylesford Penyston brie, a crispy lamb and aubergine sourdough pizza; or a squash, double gloucester and cavolo nero tart, or mix’n’match with vibrant salads. As for supper, we can’t give you an example of what you might find on the menu, but you know it’ll be super seasonal and super tasty.

DAYLESFORD CAFE: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

The Bamfords are sustainability pioneers, so it almost goes without saying that the answer is yes. Almost all the produce on the menus and in the farm shop here will be sourced from the farms in Staffordshire and the Cotswolds, with the aim of being 100% organic. When it comes to wild ingredients like the ocean-caught fish, the cafés only source the produce from trusted sustainable suppliers.
