ECOALF: WHAT IS IT?

ECOALF specialises in waterproof outerwear (including must-have ethical puffa jacket), backpacks and trainers with the motto “because there’s no planet B”. Too bloody true.

These are clothes that are designed to keep you warm and dry. The classic designs of their t-shirts and coats – including bang-on-trend puffas and macs – are available in a happy range of pastel colours for summer. Reversible gear and accessories made in grey, navy and khaki will transcend seasons.

ECOALF is a brand that has achieved the ultimate blend of style and sustainability. Wearing any item from ECOALF is a subtle statement about where you stand on environmental issues, but if you want something with a louder statement then you should also check out one of their slogan tees or wash bags.

ECOALF: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

Shopping with ECOALF means you’re basically contributing to a global clean-up from your sofa. Well done you, have a biscuit.

So, here’s the deal. ECOALF source their fabrics from the beaches of Thailand and from the bottom of the ocean. But, they’re not producing clothes from sand – rather the millions of bottles washed up around the world and the discarded fish nets that are harming the sea’s residents.

Since it began, the ECOALF Foundation has involved more than 3,000 fishermen in 40 ports collecting more than 500 tonnes of trash from the bottom of the Mediterranean. So ECOALF should probably have at least a million biscuits.

Elsewhere, the brand invests in technical innovations. The flip flops, for example, are made from tyres. Sounds simple, but it isn’t: tyres are difficult to recycle as they contain metals and antioxidants as well as fabric pieces. It took a whopping  two years of investment in R&D to create the clean powder to turn into flip-flops, so it’s safe to say ECOALF is committed to its cause.

They have been B Corp-certified since 2018 and work closely with associations like the Global Fashion Agenda and Textile Exchange.

ECOALF: WHERE CAN I BUY IT?

Jackets aren’t cheap but are 100% worth it (we’re not biased, we promise). Grab your credit card and click on over to the website. And while you’re there, look out for one of the hundreds of talks they do around the world from Spain to Thailand and Miami to reinforce the message and the need to act.
