FAIR: WHAT IS IT?

FAIR. is a range of modern premium spirits – and the clue is in the name: it’s also the world’s first Fairtrade-certified spirits brand. The brand’s unique ingredients are sourced from all over the globe and distilled in France’s world-renowned cognac region.

The silky and delicate vodka could almost be labelled a superfood because it’s made from organic quinoa seeds sourced from the 3,000m-high Altiplano plateau in South America. The juniper berries for the aromatic gin are sourced from a nature reserve in Uzbekistan, Central Asia. And as for the run, it starts with Fairtrade sugar cane from small farms in Belize that then gets aged in American bourbon barrels.

And no espresso martini we’ve ever tasted quite compares to one made with FAIR. café liqueur, created by slow roasting organic and Fairtrade Arabica coffee beans from a co-op of more than 1,900 independent farmers in the Huatusco region of Veracruz, Mexico.

FAIR: IS IT SUSTAINABLE?

FAIR.’s whole range was created with one goal in mind – to ensure the people producing ingredients for spirits get paid a fair wage.

As such, all the spirits do exactly what they say on the label – source top-quality ingredients ethically by paying Fairtrade prices to the farmers (on average 15% higher than the market price).

The brand also pays 2.5% of its revenue (not just profit) to the Fairtrade Foundation to help finance audits and contribute towards the wider goals of the organisation.

FAIR: WHO’S BEHIND IT?

FAIR. is the world’s first and unique Fairtrade-certified spirits brand, created by USA-based Frenchman with Russian heritage, Alexandre Koiransky.

We had a cocktail with him to find out more – and you can read the interview here.
