HIUT DENIM CO: WHAT IS IT?

People are at the heart of the Hiut Denim Co. Only 100 pairs of jeans are made every week in this factory in the Welsh town of Cardigan (no, Hiut doesn’t make cardigans), which was opened by The Hiut Denim Company to bring manufacturing back to a town full of skillful jean makers. Here, quality is paramount – and the factory solely makes jeans, and only for its own brand.

They say: “We make jeans. That’s it. Nothing else. No distractions. Nothing to steal our focus. No kidding ourselves that we can be good at everything. No trying to conquer the whole world. We just do our best to conquer our bit of it.”

HIUT DENIM CO: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

Organic cotton makes up to 60 per cent of Hiut Denim materials. They have a GOTS Certificate for their Organic Cotton denim and BCI Certificates for their denim sourced from Candiani, Italy.

All of the buying of materials and trims is done in house so they know where all of their materials are sourced from. Their packaging is three-ply paper sacks and is recyclable.

We asked them (as we do every brand) what could be improved and they said:

“Everything we make has some impact, Let’s not sugar coat it. Our question to ourselves each day is: ‘How can we be lower impact today than we were yesterday?’  We need to find better ways to recycle our unused denim. We are working on denims that use less energy, less water and take the micro-plastics out of jeans.”

That said, the jeans are designed to last, with Hiut Denim Co offering free repairs for the life of your jeans.

HIUT DENIM CO: WHERE CAN I BUY IT?

The jeans are made in Wales, but the brand is stocked all over the UK – head to their website for a full list.
