LARA INTIMATES: WHAT IS IT?

Lara Intimates is on a mission to make every woman feel confident by creating fashionable, well-structured, functional bras for women of every size.

As well as being uber-comfortable, the brand knows women (or anyone, really) needs to feel sexy. It’s no surprise the signature colour is black – as said by Bianca Stratford in Ten Things I Hate About You, “You don’t wear black lingerie unless you want someone to see it.”

That said, there’s a dollop of hot pink too, while mesh panels suggestively draw the eye downwards…

The brand also hosts private bra fittings in its Hackney studio where you can try on every style to find your perfect match, with alterations available to make it the very best fit.

LARA INTIMATES: WHAT IS IT?

The co-founders discovered how difficult it was to create their vision of good-looking, affordable underwear for a range of body shapes by working with established manufacturers. So in 2017, they did what they had to do and took things into their own hands, starting their own mini-factory in Hackney.

By creating all pieces in house, the design team is able to control and oversee all manufacturing processes; from the construction to minimising waste.

As a tiny team of five, all are working for a London living wage and have standard benefits such as healthcare and pension schemes.

The materials used come from factories that have overstocked or overproduced fabric. These fabrics come from all over the world and are supplied to Lara Intimates by a third party business.

In effect, by collecting and using these deadstock materials the amount of usable material going to landfill is reduced. Also, it means that the company bypasses manufacturing fabric, reducing its overall impact on the environment.

Although Lara Intimates does sometimes dye the fabrics to their specifications, this is done in an environmentally friendly way. Similarly, the elastic and fabric labels are all dyed responsibly and produced within the U.K.

LARA INTIMATES: WHERE CAN I BUY IT?

There’s a shop! And it’s a bloody lovely shop, too. Check it out at 94B Wallis Road E9 5LN.
