MUD JEANS: WHAT IS IT?

MUD Jeans knows what goes into a good pair of trousers; refinement, quality and excellent design, which is why the focus is on perfecting the key styles that never go out of fashion.

For women, the collection ranges from cool, low-slung boyfriend jeans to a sleek and sexy skinny fit or the ever-versatile high-waisted straight-legged mom jean. Most styles come in a range of black, indigo, stone wash or blue.

It also sells a similarly good range of jeans for men, a crisp unisex indigo denim jacket and unisex recycled cotton sweatshirts.

MUD JEANS: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

MUD knows we all love having new clothes to wear, so rather than denying this guilty pleasure, it’s working to create a circular consumer cycle. Instead of the ol’ buy, wear and discard model most of us are used to, MUD asks its customers to send their old jeans back.

According to MUD’s findings, it takes a staggering 7,000 litres of water to create one single pair of jeans because cotton (the material jeans are made from) is a thirsty crop.

That’s why MUD is attempting to reduce its reliance on virgin cotton. In effect, this system of returning outdated or damaged jeans to be fashioned into new pairs not only cuts down on the amount of water that goes into the manufacturing process but it also saves perfectly usable materials going to landfill. Each pair of MUD jeans comprises 23%-40% recycled denim, which is combined with virgin organic cotton, then restyled into a brand ‘new’ pair of jeans.

MUD JEANS: WHERE CAN I FIND IT?

MUD has shops around the world, all the way from Iceland to Melbourne, but for the best selection of styles head over to the expansive website.

What’s more, if you don’t want to buy, MUD is working towards a circular economy with its rental option. A sign up fee of €29 (around £26) and a monthly subscription fee of €7.50 (around £6.40) allows you to order and wear any pair of jeans for 12 months. Then, you can trade in these jeans for the same pair or switch it up and try a new style.
