NUDIE JEANS: WHAT IS IT?

Nudie Jeans started off by only designing jeans for men, but in August 2018 it released a capsule collection aimed at women, and the rest is history. Sticking to the staples of skinny, straight and loose fit jeans, Nudie Jeans has set itself a mission to find the perfect fit.

In line with the contemporary casual style, it offers a blue camo bomber jacket in denim, plain white tees and even sporty tube socks. And most importantly, it only uses Fairtrade organic cotton in its products.

NUDIE JEANS: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

Nudie bases its businesses around ethical and sustainable practices, and we love their openness and transparency.

It’s one of the tiny number of brands to put together a guide of each factory and farm used within the supply chain.

It clearly breaks down each stage of the manufacturing process for every pair of jeans. For example, two factories make a standard pair of Nudie jeans: Denim Authority in Tunisia and Idea Mode in Italy. Critically, Nudie’s team visits the factories to audit the safety measures and working conditions themselves.

For extra authority, it often also requests a third-party audit from the Fair Wear Foundation, a non-for-profit organisation working with brands, unions and factories to improve the conditions of their workplaces.

Nudie has made its production line completely ethical, which is why it publishes its own and third-party audits online for the public.

The brand shares both the positives and the negatives. Comments include “100% interviewees report being treated equally and having the same access to benefits and training”. Or on the flipside, “no evacuation drill training is given to employees”.

High ethics and sustainability is a journey, and Nudie is on the right path.

NUDIE JEANS: WHERE CAN I BUY IT?

Pop into the shop on trendy Redchurch Street in Shoreditch. There you’ll find a free repair studio to make your favourite denim last longer.

19-29 Redchurch Street, London, E2 7DJ
