OODDBOX: WHAT IS IT?

ODDBOX was developed directly in response to the facts that more than a third of the food produced goes to waste and more than eight million people in the UK live in poverty. The premise is simple: each box is made of misshapen, ‘wonky’ produce deemed too ugly for supermarket shelves that would otherwise have been binned, sourced directly from the farm.

ODDBOX: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

Produce isn’t organic, or particularly seasonal, but it has other benefits: with every medium ODDBOX you buy, you save an average of 7kg of vegetables from going to waste, 14kg of CO2 emissions (the equivalent of 35 miles in a car), and up to 1,722 litres of water. As for packaging, fruit and veg arrive at your doorstep in a cardboard box that can be collected, reused and recycled. The team works mainly with local growers to minimise the carbon impact, and they’re paid a price that’s deemed fair even by them.

And beyond that, ODDBOX donates up to 10% of its produce to local charities that work to fight food poverty – the incredible City Harvest and the Felix Project. So all in all, it’s a no brainer.

ODDBOX: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Delivery times and days vary in order to reduce carbon emissions, but you can get a rough idea according to your postcode on their website. Delivery is sadly only within London, but fingers crossed that changes soon… Oddbox also offers boxes for offices.
