PEOPLE TREE: WHAT IS IT?

People Tree is the godmother of ethical fashion. A lot of the fashion we feature on Live Frankly is from young, hipster-ish brands, and this is reflected in their contemporary style.

But this brand has been around since 1991, and its more grown-up style reflects its maturity. By this we mean they truly know how to provide the winning-combo of great quality and a flattering fit.

The designs are contemporary rather than trendy, with bright colours and bold designs that will stand the test of time. If you’re anything like us, the jumpsuits will be a permanent favourite.

Their trousers and tops take us from desk to dancefloor. And that’s all we ask of any clothing brand, really.

PEOPLE TREE: HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT?

People Tree is the true pioneer of ethical fashion and its mission remains revolutionary, which says a lot about the current state of the fashion industry (LINK).

It supports its producer-partners’ efforts towards economic independence and control over their environment. Ultimately, the aim is to challenge the power structures that undermine their rights to a livelihood.

The brand’s very first collection was designed to meet the Global Organic Textile Standard, and it was the first fashion company to be awarded the World Fair Trade Organisation product label.

Products are hand-crafted from sustainable materials, using traditional skills that support rural communities.

Click on any of the garms and you’ll be able to read about both the materials and the people who made that item of clothing.

People Tree supports other fashion labels made with similar principles, which we think is pretty cool. They say: “For every beautiful garment People Tree makes, there’s an equally beautiful change happening somewhere in the world.” And we couldn’t agree more.

PEOPLE TREE: WHERE CAN I BUY IT?

Online (look out for sales), but the brand has several stockists, too – John Lewis being one of them.
